The Clouser Swimming Nymph has a reputation of being one of the best producing Carp patterns going. It also works on Smallmouth, Panfish, Trout and even Steelhead. It can imitate a whole host of prey species including stonefly nymphs, damselfly nymphs, dragonfly nymphs, leeches, soft-shell crayfish and even tadpoles. It works very well in shallow water where it should be fished slow in a series of alternating stripes or crawled across the rocks. In current it can also be fished in a dead drift. We like to cast it right in front of the carp’s nose then once it hits bottom begin the slow striping until you come tight. This pattern has an excellent color scheme and actually belongs in everyone’s fly box
