Squid Fly: This pattern comes from Orvis and is uniquely tied to fish for Striped Bass in the Northeast. Squid (Lologo pealei and Illex illecebrosus) are a very important food source to Striped Bass from Cape Cod to New Jersey. In the evening squid typically move into shallow water to feed on small baitfish and the Stripers follow them in. This pattern is best fished at night with a very slow stop and go motion. When fished in the daytime speed up the retrieve with longer stripes with a several second pause in between stripes.
