Hendrickson: This American origional was created by tier Roy Steenrod in 1915 for a customer of the same name.Scientifically this is the Family Ephemerellidae and the important Genus: Ephemerella. This genus contains fifty one recognized species of Mayflies and is one of the most prolific of all aquatic insect Families in North America. This Genus not only includes Hendrickson (E. subvaria) but also Pale Morning Duns, Blue Winged Olives and Sulphur Duns all of which are considered Superhatches on their own. Another Genus in this Family is Serratella with fourteen species includes the Little Dark Hendrickson (S.deficiens) and the Small Western Dark Hendrickson (S. tibialis). During hatching in early spring Hendrickson’s drift downstream for some distance before taking flight making for some excellent surface fly action.
