Red Quill Dry Fly: This is an imitation of the Mayfly; Serratella tibialis also known locally as the Small Western Dark Hendrickson. This is a late hatching species of Mayfly that inhabits primarily Western streams and rivers all the way north into Alberta. Hatches can be sporadic with timing depending on elevation and temperature from midday to early evening. Red Quill hatches normally occur from mid-August to mid-September. The natural is only 7-9 mm in size so look to fish either a #14 or #16 hook size.
